Unlearning the Lie – You Were Never Too Much

For women who have endured trauma, addiction, or incarceration, there’s often a silent story written into their lives: You’re too much. Too loud. Too emotional. Too broken. Too needy.

And so, many learn to shrink. To hide parts of themselves. To perform strength while silencing their truth.

But at Awaken Your Lioness, we are rewriting that story.

Because the truth is: You were never too much. You were never the problem.

Where the Lie Comes From

The belief that you’re “too much” often begins in childhood, relationships, or systems that demanded silence, obedience, or perfection in exchange for love or safety.

Over time, this belief gets reinforced by:

Being punished or shamed for expressing emotions

Having to take care of others’ feelings before your own

Being told to “toughen up,” “get over it,” or “calm down”

Systems that devalue vulnerability, softness, or emotional honesty

This isn't who you are—it’s who you were taught to be to survive.

Why This Matters in Trauma Recovery

When you carry the weight of being “too much,” you start:

Dimming your light in relationships

Minimizing your needs

Overthinking every word, feeling, or reaction

Apologizing for your presence

Believing that healing means becoming less, instead of more yourself

But healing isn’t about shrinking—it’s about expanding into your full truth.

How to Unlearn the Lie and Reclaim Your Enoughness

1. Recognize the Source

Ask yourself: Where did I first feel like I was too much? Whose voice am I carrying? Naming the origin helps you realize—it was never about you.

2. Validate Your Experience

Your emotions, sensitivity, intensity, and passion are not weaknesses. They are parts of your brilliance. Say it aloud: “There is nothing wrong with me.”

3. Reclaim Your Voice

Start speaking up again. Even in small ways. Even if your voice trembles. You deserve to be heard—not just by others, but by yourself.

4. Surround Yourself with People Who See You Fully

Healing happens in safe spaces. Choose people who can hold your truth without making you feel like you need to be smaller, quieter, or easier to love.

5. Speak Life Over Yourself

Try affirmations like:

“I am not too much—I am just enough.”

“I do not need to shrink to be worthy of love.”

“My presence, voice, and truth belong in every room I enter.”

You Are Not Too Much—You Are Becoming Whole

At Awaken Your Lioness, we see you. The parts of you that were silenced. The parts that long to take up space. The woman you are becoming—unapologetically whole, fully seen, and deeply worthy.

Your emotions aren’t excessive. Your needs aren’t a burden. Your story is not too messy.

You were never too much. You were never not enough.

You were always exactly who you needed to be.

And now, you get to become who you were meant to be.
