The Space Between Trigger and Response Is Where Your Healing Begins
Have you ever reacted to something and immediately thought:
"Why did I do that?"
Maybe you raised your voice.
Maybe you shut down.
Maybe you walked away.
Maybe you apologized for something that wasn't your responsibility.
Maybe you people-pleased to avoid conflict.
The situation lasted only a few minutes.
But afterward, you replayed it for hours.
If you've ever experienced this, I want you to know something important:
Your first reaction doesn't define you.
It's what you choose next that begins shaping your future.
🦁 Why We React Before We Think
When you've lived through difficult experiences, your brain and body become remarkably efficient at protecting you.
Before your logical mind has time to evaluate a situation, your nervous system asks one simple question:
"Does this feel familiar?"
Not necessarily,
"Is this dangerous?"
Simply,
"Have I experienced something like this before?"
If the answer is yes, your body may respond before your thinking brain has fully caught up.
You may:
Become defensive.
Withdraw.
Feel overwhelmed.
Over-explain.
Freeze.
Try to make everyone happy.
These responses aren't evidence that you've failed.
They're evidence that your nervous system learned to protect you.
🌱 Healing Lives in the Pause
One of the greatest gifts you can give yourself is learning to create space.
A single breath.
A moment of awareness.
A pause before responding.
That small pause changes everything.
Because in that space, you move from reacting automatically to responding intentionally.
Instead of asking:
"What's wrong with me?"
You begin asking:
"What am I feeling right now?"
"What do I actually need?"
"What response aligns with the woman I'm becoming?"
That pause becomes the birthplace of new choices.
✨ Small Moments Rewire Your Future
Many women believe transformation happens through dramatic life changes.
More often, it happens through ordinary moments.
The moment you choose curiosity instead of criticism.
The moment you choose a boundary instead of resentment.
The moment you choose honesty instead of pretending.
The moment you choose compassion instead of shame.
Each of these moments teaches your brain something new.
"I have options."
"I am safe enough to choose differently."
And with every repetition, those new choices become more natural.
🌅 You Are Not Stuck
If you find yourself repeating old reactions, don't lose heart.
Healing isn't measured by whether you're ever triggered again.
Healing is measured by what happens after the trigger.
Do you notice it sooner?
Do you recover more quickly?
Do you speak to yourself more kindly?
Do you repair relationships more intentionally?
That is progress.
Real progress.
🦁 The Lioness understands that freedom isn't found in never being triggered. Freedom is found in learning that she is no longer controlled by her automatic reactions.
Every pause.
Every breath.
Every intentional choice.
Is evidence that you are becoming the woman you were created to be.
Reflection
The next time you notice yourself reacting, don't judge yourself.
Instead, pause and ask:
"What is this moment inviting me to learn about myself?"
Then take one slow breath before choosing your next response.
That single breath may become the beginning of a completely different future.
